River options : Restigouche, Patapédia, Upsalquitch
Patapedia/Restigouche river: The departure of this trip is located at the "24 Miles" of the Patapedia River (km 37) in the heart of the Matapedia and Patapedia River Wildlife Reserve. You will discover a river that meanders between the mountains in the deepest part of the valley! Each turn of the river requires a quick mind to maneuver through a rapid. This is a beginner/intermediate river, the rapids are R1 class. The campsites on this river are wild and undeveloped. The Patapedia River, whose lower part marks the border between Quebec and New Brunswick, gives you the impression of being alone in the world in a small narrow valley. You will then end up in the majestic Restigouche River, in the One million Dollars pool, which happens to be the junction between the two rivers.This is the perfect place to see salmon. Depending on your itinerary, you will have the option of sleeping on the banks of the Restigouche or in a campground. The second part of the expedition is done on the Restigouche River. Note that all the rapids/obstacles on this river are avoidable considering its width. From the 3rd-4th day of your trip, you will have to go down the Chamberlains rapids (class R2 depending on the water level). Then, a few R1 class rapids will be on your way. Several camping options (semi-developed) are available during your descent. Possibility of wilderness camping if desired. Distance: 101 km
Kedgwick/Restigouche river: Departure is from the "Rapid Dépot or the Forks" located on the Kedgwick river upstream the Restigouche River. Some campsite are located along the river. Consider canoeing 25-30 km each day (about 5-6 hrs on the water). You will find a constant flow on the first few kilometers of the Restigouche river. A few R1 class rapids will be encountered at the beginning of the trip. The color of the water and the scenery are breathtaking. Possibility of seeing many Atlantic salmon and bald eagles. Note that all the rapids/obstacles of this river are avoidable considering its width. At some point of your trip, you will have to pass the Chamberlains rapids, class R2 depending on the water level. Then, a few R1 class rapids will be on your way. Calm and serene, you will return from this trip fulfilled. You are finishing your trip in Matapedia. Distance : 132-152 km
