Information

In partnership with URLS Chaudière-Appalaches and the Regional Association of Recreation for People with Disabilities in the Chaudière-Appalaches region (ARLPH), the Parc du Massif du Sud is proud to offer better accessibility to recreational activities, sports, physical and outdoor in its territory by making accessible without charge, for a block of 4 hours or a full day, the adapted racing chair Kartus.

Description:

The Kartus running chair requires a companion and allows you to easily push someone who is sitting on it. It has a handlebar, an adjustable backrest (tilt from 90o to 105o), two wheels at the rear and one wheel at the front, protective panels as well as a fork for connecting the seat to the front wheel. The lightweight frame and unique steering system make this chair easy to maneuver.

To think about before going out

  • Plan an accessible route with equipment.
  • Choose the route according to the physical and technical abilities of the person, but also of the accompanying persons.
  • Check that the equipment is in good working order (before leaving).
  • Know the weather. A route that can be taken in good weather can become dangerous in bad weather.
  • Inform others about the route you are planning to take.

Safety instructions when using equipment

  • Maintain the correct balance and position of the seat at all times, regardless of the slope or condition of the terrain.
  • Do not go too fast: You must know where the wheel(s) are, where you step to avoid tripping or slipping Do not use equipment if you feel tired or exhausted. In this regard, allow for breaks during the activity.
  • Think about communicating with each other, especially during technical passages.
  • Make sure that no equipment is in the way (a backpack for example) Make sure that the passenger is comfortable and seated
  • Ensure that the passenger is not bothered by the temperature. There may be a risk of hypothermia, dehydration or heat stroke.
  • Remember that falls do not happen in delicate passages, but rather in quiet moments, due to lack of vigilance
