Paddle Canada teacher training: River 1

This paddling teacher training is for people who want to specialize themselves in whitewater SUP and who have a strong technical background. You will learn how to teach river safety skills: Falling in the water in a safe manner, how to remount the board, using the leash, river signals and hazards, and the throw bag rescue.  You will learn how to demonstrate paddling notions: different river paddling techniques, foot positions, edging and Eddy turn, front ferry, and surfing. We will also look over notions regarding clothing, safety equipment, and river reading. All of these skills will be taught during an excursion on the Saint Lawrence River. Provides the theory and skills for paddling Class I rivers.

Certification: Following the completion of this training, you will receive your Paddle Canada instructor certificate: “Advanced Flat Water SUP Instructor”. *The obtainment of the certificate can depend on the training’s success.

Prerequisite:
  • At least 18 years old
  • Current Paddle Canada membership
  • Paddle Canada River 2 SUP skills certification, or equivalent skills and knowledge
  • Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater SUP instructor certification
  • Current certification in standard first aid with CPR (14-16 hours)
  • Recommended appropriate swift-water rescue training
  • Experience beyond that the River 1 SUP skills course
  • Have a passion for teaching
